AT THE HEART OF THE HOSPITAL

AREA OF HEALTH

EITHER I SLEEP OR DIE

DIGITAL JOURNALISM

At a time when the health services are at the centre of all our attention, two reports issued by SIC and Expresso were awarded prizes by Clube de Jornalistas and APIFARMA to highlight the best journalistic work in the area of health.

SIC’s special report “At the heart of the Hospital”, which marked the 40th anniversary of the National Health Service, travelled the length of the country to reveal the strengths and weaknesses of public hospitals, and was awarded the prize for the best journalistic work in the area of health broadcast on television in the last year.

Doctors, nurses and users expressed their concern with regard to divestment in the NHS and the ever-increasing growth of private clinics. Health professionals warn of a lack of human and material resources, especially in emergency services, largely due to the aging of the population and the increasing burden of chronic diseases.

The award-winning report, which can be seen here, is the work of Catarina Marques, with images by Humberto Candeias, edited by Rui Félix, produced by Cláudia Araújo, graphics by Luís Bispo and Carla Gonçalves and coordinated by Luís Marçal.

Expresso’s work “Either I sleep or die” was also remembered, but in the category of Digital Journalism.

This is the work of Helena Bento and tells four stories about people who find it hard to sleep. Photography by Tiago Miranda, video by André Godinho, sound by José Quintino, multimedia edition by João Duarte, infographics by Carlos Esteves, web design by João Melancia and Tiago Santos and web development by Maria Romero.
